Fever, swollen, tender glands on one or both sides of the face. Symptoms are sometimes so mild that disease is not recognized.
Virus is spread by direct and indirect contact with respiratory droplets from the nose and mouth.
From 7 days before swelling appears until 5 days after.
Exclude until 5 days after onset of swelling or symptom onset if parotitis is not present.
Clean and disinfect soiled articles and surfaces.
Thorough and frequent hand washing by staff and children.
