10.1 PHU COVID-19 Response: Locally Informed with Strong Local Connections – L. Catton
Dr. Catton shared a presentation to highlight the strength and value of local public health and the positive impact on the PHU’s COVID-19 response. Dr. Catton advised that strong local connections are the backbone of public health. Collaborating with community leaders, Indigenous partners, First Nation leadership, health care, educators, social service sector, and volunteers is important and critical to the success of public health. Local public health provided a rapid response to local trends, responding to the needs of each community, and tailoring an approach to priority groups. The PHU was able to respond and connect in innovative ways across a large rural area, recognizing the unique context of each community, while addressing competing significant and tragic priorities. This locally informed response included securing additional vaccine and advanced vaccination of priority groups when the PHU had the highest rate of cases in the province. Chair Sue Perras thanked Dr. Catton for an excellent presentation and recommended this presentation be shared with the region’s municipal leadership.
